Mohammad Suhail Shaheen, Designate Afghanistan Permanent Representative to United Nations has urged in a statement today that winter is around the corner, so immediate need for the International Community to disburse on urgent basis the recently announced nearly one-billion-euro (appx. $1.2-billion) aid package pledged at a virtual G20 summit for Afghanistan , to all poor, vulnerable and displaced people of Afghanistan. The IEA Government is ready to fully cooperate through the chanelled agencies and other NGOs on the ground.
He said that the humanitarian assistance will not end our shared and mutual responsibility towards impending migration, famine and humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan. He stressed on the International Community to support Afghanistan with unfreezing nearly $10 billion assets of the Afghan people and resuming the development aid and projects pledged to Afghanistan by the International Community at the Geneva Conference 2020.
Shaheen said that Afghanistan has a fragile climate. There is need for tremendous work. Some climate change projects which have already been approved and were funded by Green Climate Fund, UNDP, Afghan Aid should fully resume work.
‘This, on the one hand, will help change the climate for the better and on the other hand, will provide job opportunities for people. The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan is committed to security and safe environment for all NGOs operations, he stressed.
