Upcoming Doha Marathon by Ooredoo to be held on Friday, 16th of February is classified as a prestigious World Athletics Gold Label Road Race will attract over 10,000 participants.
It was revealed today at a press conference held at the Ooredoo Headquarters in Doha addressed by Sabah Rabiah AlKuwari, Director of Public Relations, Ooredoo; Mohammed Issa Al Fadala, President, Qatar Athletics Federation; and Abdullah AlDosari of Ministry of Sports and Youth. Present on the occasion were representatives from supporting and sponsoring entities along with diverse media organizations.
Sabah Rabiah AlKuwari announced return of Mutaz Barshim, the brand ambassador and Olympic High Jump Champion, alongside a group of elite athletes competing for victory.
The speakers unveiled essential details about the marathon, recognized as the largest community sporting event in Qatar. 2024 Doha Marathon features six race categories, the event aims to be inclusive, catering to all ages and abilities, from the full marathon to junior and kids races.
Participants with disabilities are actively encouraged to join, emphasizing the marathon’s commitment to inclusivity and community spirit.
Race timings include the Marathon starting at 0615 AM; Half Marathon at 0730 AM; 10 KM at 0830 AM; 5 KM at 0910 AM; Junior 5 KM (13-17 years old) at 0910 AM; and Kids 1 KM (under 13 years olds) at 1030 AM.
This year’s event introduces the Al ADAAM category in partnership with the Social & Sport Contribution Fund (DAAM), offering special awards to support local athletes. Two new Volkswagen cars will be awarded as prizes, with all finishers entered into a raffle, and one car allocated to the “Al ADAAM” category.
Starting and ending at Hotel Park, the marathon route offers a scenic journey along the picturesque corniche, enhancing the experience for both runners and spectators. ‘The Race Village’ at Hotel Park will be open for five days from Monday, February 12, preceding Qatar National Sport Day.
Since 2013, the Doha Marathon by Ooredoo has experienced significant growth, aligning with Qatar’s thriving health and fitness industry and its increasing prominence in hosting major sporting events. The marathon’s attainment of the World Athletics Gold Label elevates it to the elite tier of global road races, providing qualification opportunities for international events such as the Boston Marathon.
Sabah Rabiah Al Kuwari, Director of Public Relations, Splonsorships, and CSR at Ooredoo Qatar, expressed gratitude to sponsors and supporters, emphasizing their crucial role in the marathon’s success.
Mohammed Issa AlFadala, President Qatar Athletics Federation expressed pride in the marathon achieving World Athletics Gold status, raising Doha’s international sporting profile.
Abdullah Al Dosari, representing Ministry of Sports and Youth, highlighted the marathon’s role in the community and it’s growth across age groups.
He said that the event is inclusive, with the Support category encouraging Qatari youth to participate and enhance their podium opportunities.
The mega event of Doha Marathon by Ooredoo is sponsored by DAAM, the Ministry of Interior, Qatar Athletics Federation, Qatar Sports for All Federation, Qatar Tourism, Qatar Airways, Asics, Doha Expo, Volkswagen, The View Hospital, Qatar Insurance Company, Al Rayan Water, and Communication.
AlKuwari said that Doha Marathon by Ooredoo not only orchestrates a large-scale event but also promotes community spirit and a healthier lifestyle in Qatar.
